The Food Speculator
Assuming the role of a speculator, director Kees Brouwer tries to find out whether he is merely taking advantage of the opportunity offered to investors by the food scarcity, or that, through this abstract world of financial products, he is drastically interfering in poor people’s lives.

The Collective Evolution
The documentary addresses this need for change through five individual yet interrelated structures society has come to rely upon – finance, education, religion, entertainment/media, and health/food.

Bob Dutko: Why He Fails
Christian radio talk-show host and apologist Bob Dutko took the time to reply to the first video of the 10-part series, Top Ten (Failed) Proofs for God’s Existence.

Terminal Democracy
What if people were either so distracted or so disillusioned with the political process that they simply gave up on democracy?

Darfur Diaries: Message from Home
This film seeks to provide space for the marginalized victims of atrocities to speak and to engage with the world. Amnesty International is using the film to educate its members and the public about the situation in Darfur.

The Greatest Truth Never Told
The paradigm which we operate under is mathematically going to end. The end of the world as we know it does not mean it is the end of the worldThe way of life we are currently leading is pulling humanity down and should be shown the door. We cannot change the world to make our self happy or free.

Giants of the Bible
The Bible describes many individuals as giants, and it also mentions several giant people groups. Interpreters have speculated about the size of these people with guesses ranging anywhere from 6 feet to more than 30 feet in height. Also, a great deal of misinformation about biblical giants has been proliferated on the Internet along with some fake pictures of supposed giants. So did these giants really exist?

Belief and Fear of Death
So, who’s afraid of death? Some of us find the question itself to be distasteful. We don’t even want to think about it. To know would be depressing, and perhaps if it were to be sooner than later, well, that would put a damper on things.

Eye of the Illuminati
Eye of the Illuminati is an in depth look at the state of the world, and the agenda of secret societies and the ruling class of the developed one world government system.

Justice: Saudi Style
In Saudi kingdom death sentence is given to murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers. The execution is usually carried out through severing off the heads of the victim with a sword. Pretty gruesome stuff – as you can imagine. This is an acceptable standard in that country.

Supreme Court Rejects Attempt to Block Recording of Police Officers

ACLU of Illinois: "... individuals and organizations must be able to freely gather and record information about the conduct of government and their agents – especially the police."

American excess in perspective
Thanksgiving Thursday is then immediately followed by Black Friday - the busiest shopping day of the year. Many retailers even opened their doors on Thursday night this year, instead of waiting for Friday. While their turkey dinners were still digesting, hordes of shoppers descended on their local Walmart, Target, and Best Buy stores and elbowed their way to the best deals on large-screen TVs and other treasures. It is American consumerism at its most obscene. And it has become almost like a sporting event. No qualms about it. It's the American way.

Evacuate Guantanamo -- It Belongs to Cuba

Why We Need War Photography Now More Than Ever
Unfortunately, in an age of dehumanized battle where automated drones strike from above, we may be losing the genre of war photography itself, just when we need it more than ever.

How we made the world hear Gaza, as citizen journalists

Bearing witness to the mainstream reporting of last week’s events was a cruel slap across in the face whose effect shall always remain. I was and still am very sickened by the amount misrepresentation we received.

Women human rights defenders: activism's front-line
There is growing recognition by the international community that women human rights defenders are best placed to respond to violence against women and a crucial force for peace; but the international protection framework needs to be made more accessible to those in need, says Jennifer Allsopp.

Israel airstrikes to cost Gaza over $300 million

The report covered damages to the agricultural, health and social sectors. The occupied territory’s agrarian segment suffered $120 million in damage. The eight-day halt to economic activities resulted in $40 million lost. The rest of the sum comes from destroyed buildings and infrastructure that was impaired by Israeli airstrikes, Xinhua reported

Why Israel Didn’t Win
The ceasefire agreed by Israel and Hamas in Cairo after eight days of fighting is merely a pause in the Israel-Palestine conflict. It promises to ease movement at all border crossings with the Gaza Strip, but will not lift the blockade. It requires Israel to end its assault on the Strip, and Palestinian militants to stop firing rockets at southern Israel, but it leaves Gaza as miserable as ever: according to a recent UN report, the Strip will be ‘uninhabitable’ by 2020. And this is to speak only of Gaza.
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article33138.htm

Pillar of Impotence
In the past week, the people of Gaza have been subject to some serious Israeli attacks. Some Hamas leaders and militants have been murdered and many more Palestinians -  innocent civilians, babies, kids women and elders – have lost their live. Yet, Gaza is celebrating with the Hamas leadership never more popular.

Texas high school student is being suspended for refusing to wear a student ID card implanted with a radio-frequency identification chip. Northside Independent School District in San Antonio began issuing the RFID-chip-laden student-body cards when the semester began in the fall. The ID badge has a bar code associated with a student's Social Security number, and the RFID chip monitors pupils' movements on campus, from when they arrive until when they leave.

Supreme Court To Look At Who Is A 'Supervisor' In Harassment Cases
The U.S. Supreme Court this week takes up the question of who qualifies as a supervisor when the issue is harassment in the workplace. The court's answer to that question could significantly restrict employer liability in racial and sexual harassment cases, or, in the view of some business organizations, it could result in frivolous litigation.

A government for the Puerto Rican people?
In elections on November 6, Alejandro García Padilla, of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), defeated conservative incumbent Gov. Luis Fortuño, of the New Progressive Party (PNP), by about 13,000 votes. At the same time, in a nonbinding referendum, 61 percent of voters indicated that they would like Puerto Rico to become a U.S. state. Paradoxically, it seemed that Puerto Ricans chose to toss out their pro-statehood governor while opting for "statehood" on the political status referendum. But as with much in the November elections, there was more to the results than met the eye. García Padilla campaigned for a "government for the people." But he is really committed, as was Fortuño, to a "government for the same old rich people."

The Economic Consequences of the Gaza Blockade
Using the West Bank as a counterfactual, I find that being removed from world markets reduced welfare by 17%-28% on average. Moreover, households with larger pre-blockade expenditure levels experienced disproportionally larger welfare losses. These effects are substantially larger than the predictions of standard trade models.

Journalists demand UN probe into why Israel targeted them in Gaza
As people anxiously wait to see if the ceasefire between Israel andHamas will hold, local and international human rights groups are calling for investigations into Israeli human rights abuses committed during its eight-day assault on the Gaza Strip, including flagrant attacks on journalists.

White House Report: Fiscal Cliff Could Cut Consumer Spending By $200 Billion
On Cyber Monday, the White House released a report detailing the effect of ending middle class tax cuts by going over the fiscal cliff on consumer spending. The report, from the National Economic Council and the Council of Economic Advisers, finds that consumer spending could drop by close to $200 billion in 2013 from tax hikes alone.

The Maximal Zionist Project Is To Have A Minimal Palestine: Gregory Harms
American journalist and scholar Gregory Harms believes that the recent 8-day Israeli war on the Gaza Strip might have been waged to distract public attention from the internal socioeconomic crises and problems the Israeli regime faces, especially ahead of the January 2013 legislative elections. He believes that launching airstrikes on Gaza may serve to give Benjamin Netanyahu and the Likud party a secure vote in the upcoming elections.

The Palestinians’ Only Option
In the final countdown to the UN General Assembly vote on recognition of Palestine as a non-member state, the PLO has indicated that it’s expecting “a pleasant surprise”, it being the number of European countries which will not do Zionism’s bidding on this occasion and will vote for the resolution. Victory for the Palestinians in this forum can be taken for granted, and it will help to further isolate the Israel of Netanyahu as a pariah state, but… It won’t be, can’t be, a substitute for a viable strategy to secure justice for the Palestinians.

Kristol’s Thanksgiving Meditation Makes Central Role of Israel in Neo-Conservatism Clear
For those, particularly in the timid or intimidated U.S. foreign-policy elite, who still pretend or somehow make themselves believe that Israel is not absolutely central to the neo-conservative worldview, I commend this week’s Thanksgiving editorial by Bill Kristol, scion of one of the movement’s two founding families, in The Weekly Standard, entitled “The West Fights Back”.

Ready for Occupy 2.0?
September 17 is fast approaching. I urge you to support the warriors on the front line who are fighting for you.
No, not the Military.
I'm talking about the Occupiers, the new soldiers of freedom and liberty.

America's Police State on Steroids at the Conventions

n cities hosting large gatherings such as the national political conventions or international summits, we've come to expect a massive militarized police presence, even as the ranks of protesters thin. But what happens to all of the new high-tech cop toys and newly passed ordinances once conventioneers leave town? They stay.

The Obama administration and the cover-up of CIA torture

The 156-page report produced by Human Rights Watch (HW) is based upon interviews with 14 Libyans subjected to “extraordinary rendition” and torture by the CIA and then forcibly returned to Libya, where they were imprisoned and in some cases tortured again by the government of Col. Muammar Gaddafi. Substantiating their testimony are classified documents—communications between the CIA and Libyan intelligence—found in the abandoned offices of former Libyan intelligence chief Musa Kusa after Tripoli fell to NATO-backed rebels in September 2011.

FBI Begins Installation of $1 billion Face Recognition System Across The USA

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reached a milestone in the development of their Next Generation Identification (NGI) program and is now implementing the intelligence database in unidentified locales across the country, New Scientist reports in an article this week. The FBI first outlined the project back in 2005, explaining to the Justice Department in an August 2006 document (.pdf) that their new system will eventually serve as an upgrade to the current Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) that keeps track of citizens with criminal records across America.

9/11, Bin Laden and the Tyranny of the Corporate Media
This essay originally appeared on September 21, 2001 in my Daily Iowan column, “Firing Line.” The piece uses George Orwell’s 1984 as a basis to suggest how from the very beginning the corporate media played a central role in setting the stage for the prevalent Osama bin Laden-Al Qaeda myth, the related “blowback” thesis vigorously embraced by the progressive-left community, and the assemblage of rearguard actions defending such perspectives and reflexively labeling all accounts conflicting with government pronouncements as “conspiracy theories.”

Police May Block Mobile Devices Via Apple

It is Not Enough To "Have" Human Rights, It Is Essential To Know Them And Own Them As a Way of Life
Having met face to face with people living in hundreds of communities around the world, facilitating dialogue about human rights as a way of life, I choose not to engage in the discourse about diversity and/or intercultural dialogue and not even peace. I believe that such discussions destract us from holding the necessary and essential conversations that can lead to the planning of meaningful ways and means to facilitate the learning of human rights as a way of lfie throughout the world.

The Future Of International Law
It is becoming increasingly clear that the concept of the absolutely sovereign nation-state is a dangerous anachronism in a world of thermonuclear weapons, instantaneous communication, and economic interdependence. Probably our best hope for the future lies in developing the United Nations into a World Federation.

Will We Continue to Ignore the Poor?

e've got a problem in this country. I know it, you know it, and the politicians know it too, but most won't even say it out loud: poverty. We're bracing ourselves for next month's release of the 2011 numbers -- most economists predict that we're looking at the highest rates of poverty in fifty years.

Chick-fil-A, the Party of Hate, and the 2016 GOP Presidential Nomination

Chick-fil-A fast-food restaurants specialize, it would appear, in providing high-calorie food featuring fried chicken. Just to remind you of what the fuss was all about, the CEO of Chick-fil-A, one Dan Cathy, has been active for some years in several of the leading national homophobic organizations.

Real Unemployment at 23% - Dampening the Excitement

There was a shadow over the national conventions of both political parties.  The people know that the economy is much worse than anyone in the power structure will admit.  As usual, the people are right.  The real rate of unemployment is 23%, not the official figures we hear on a regular basis.  The 23% figure  represents all of those unemployed no matter how long, the involuntarily under employed (part time), and those who have given up looking, the discouraged, due to an chronically arid job market.   If either wing of The Money Party, Democratic or Republican, admits to the the real unemployment situation,  they would be forced to admit a complete system failure and compelled to act to act.  There would be no choice but to drop the nonsense about austerity and balanced budgets.

More than 50 million face hunger in the US

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported Wednesday that 14.9 percent of Americans faced food insecurity in 2011. This means that one in six people lives in a household that is at risk of hunger. Of the more than 50 million people in the US for whom hunger is a reality, nearly 17 million are children.
